Myth: My daily commute does not affect climate change
FACT: There are 12,177,410 commuters in Canada driving an average of 14 kilometres each day. If these drivers each work five days a week, they are adding 238,677 tonnes of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere each week! Imagine if these commuters were to telework (working remotely from home) just one day a week. It would eliminate 2,386,750 tonnes of carbon emissions a year. Yet only 10 percent of Canada's workforce teleworks. If you were to arrange to work from home just two days a week, you would save one quarter of a tonne of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere a year, not to mention the money you would save on fuel.
