Squamish Lil'Wat Cultural Centre and NWW

1 pm April 4, 2009
4584 Blackcomb Way , Whistler , British Columbia

Plant yourself at the Squamish Lil’Wat Cultural Centre in Whistler for National Wildlife Week. The celebration begins Saturday, April 4 with a FREE day of admission for the public between 9:30 am and 5 pm.  As part of the launch of National Wildlife Week, the Canadian Wildlife Federation will announce a new wetlands program for Whistler and area in partnership with the BC Wildlife Federation. The new Hinterland Who’s Who webisode Wetland Wonderland will be screened and complementary native plant inspired snacks and refreshments will be served. These special CWF announcements and activities will begin at 1 pm. Bring your appetite as the native plant inspired menu for this casual reception and press conference at 1 pm looks berry good!

National Wildlife Week at the Squamish Lil’Wat Cultural Centre offers fun for the whole family. Embark on a forest walk to see indigenous plants, create nature inspired crafts, listen to traditional Squamish and Lil’Wat singers and drummers, enjoy island, rock, tree and regalia exhibits, visit the living roof and tour displays from the Canadian Wildlife Federation and BC Wildlife Federation.

This is an open invitation to join CWF Executive Vice President Wade Luzny and special friends to root for wildlife and habitat conservation programs.

The Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre — where rivers, mountains and people meet — is designed in the form of two traditional dwellings; a Squamish Longhouse and Lil'wat Istken (underground pit dwelling). Located at 4584 Blackcomb Way in Whistler’s upper village, the centre is the perfect venue to advance the National Wildlife Week theme: Our Home and Native Plants.

The celebration of National Wildlife Week continues April 5-11 at the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre as part of regular admission. Displays, contests and a native plant inspired menu will be featured in the cafeteria area.

Become a special friend of wildlife. Join the Canadian Wildlife Federation in Whistler Saturday, April 4.  For more information or to confirm your participation at the 1 pm launch, e-mail Heather Robison at heatherr@cwf-fcf.org.
