How We Work

At CWF, we believe action begins with awareness. So not only have we created lots of opportunities not only for people to get to know Canada's wildlife, but we also give people many options to take action to help them. Our donors' support makes in possible for us to extend our reach to give assistance to wildlife in trouble, either through education and learning, awareness programs or funding research.

• We introduce online visitors to species whose habitats and life stories are profiled in HWW videos and fact sheets and on the Wild About Gardening website' Feature Creature and Feature Plant profile pages.

• We assess and certify local properties through our wildlife habitat programs, such as Backyard Habitat Certification, Golden Gardens and Communities for Wildlife

• We train WILD Education facilitators to spread the word about our conservation curricula countrywide so that elementary and secondary school students can restore habitats in their cities and schools through our various habitat units

• We provide financial support to students, researchers and schools undertaking deserving research or habitat projects.

• We offer many donation options for people who want to give financial support to help wildlife and wild habitats.

• We unveil new curricula around a different theme every year in April, to encourage students and teachers to learn about wildlife during National Wildlife Week, and again in June, to promote learning about watersheds during Rivers to Oceans Week.

• We publish beautiful, high-quality resources, such as posters, magazines, websites, newsletters, calendars and online features that have all inspired deep connections in Canadians to wildlife and our organization.

• We encourage stakeholders, such as governments and industry, to always keep a healthy future for wildlife in mind when creating legislation and engaging in their day-to-day operations.

We encourage Canadians to engage in dialogues about wildlife through numerous contests, competitions and just-for-fun initiatives:

• Send us stories of your encounters with wildlife through Hinterland Who's Who's Stories from the Hinterland

• Send us your photos of wild Canadian creatures and landscapes to our Reflections of Nature photo contest

• Take part in our discussion forums on climate change and leave your thoughts on the way the world is changing on our blog.
