May 10, 2012 | Ontario accused of mimicking Ottawa in hiding environmental changes in omnibus budget bill

(The National Post) Jim Flaherty, shove over. The federal finance minister is not alone in raising a stink among environmentalists for trying to cram a half-dozen major initiatives into one big omnibus bill and hoping parliament doesn’t choke on it.

More than 50 environmental groups, including Greenpeace, the Canadian Wildlife Federation and the David Suzuki Foundation, have signed a petition to Ontario’s Liberal premier, Dalton McGuinty, accusing him of “burying changes that weaken protection for our wildlife and ecosystems in a budget bill” and trying to force it through the legislature.

April 30, 2012 | Rowers circumnavigate Vancouver Island in 19 days

(Times Colonist) Olympic gold medallist Adam Kreek and four fellow rowers have spent the last 19 days living in a space no bigger than a closet, sleeping no more than four hours at a time and rowing 12 hours a day. It was all part of the team’s ambitious quest to circumnavigate Vancouver Island. In addition to the physical and mental challenge, the quest, sponsored by the Canadian Wildlife Federation, was meant to raise awareness about ocean conservation.

April 24, 2012 | Canadian Congress on the Future of Fish and Wildlife

(Market Watch) the first ever National Fish & Wildlife Conservation Congress will take place at the Westin, Ottawa, bringing together governments, policy and program managers, fish and wildlife experts from across Canada and the U.S., nongovernment organizations (NGO's) and others to chart a course for the future conservation of our nation's fish and wildlife resources. The Congress is being led by the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (OFAH) in partnership with the federal government, government of Ontario, and a long list of national and international NGO's such as Ducks Unlimited Canada, Wildlife Habitat Canada, Canadian Wildlife Federation...among others.

April 22, 2012 | Ready oar not: Rowboat crew is circling Vancouver Island

(The Globe and Mail) Somewhere at sea tonight, an hour before midnight, Adam Kreek and Richard Tarbill will roll out of their narrow bunks, their balance now perfectly tuned to the pitch of the sea, and make their way out on deck. The five friends, whose nautical adventure is being sponsored by the Canadian Wildlife Federation, are rowing around the island to help raise public awareness about ocean conservation.

(Bowan Island Undercurrent) A call to the Undercurrent office on Friday, April 13, alerted us to an “interesting boat” docking at the Union Steamship Marina. And an interesting boat it turned out to be. It was a 29-foot Oar Northwest ocean row boat, the James Robert Hanssen. Its crew was about to embark on a counter-clockwise circumnavigation of Vancouver Island. The expedition’s major sponsor is the Canadian Wildlife Federation (CWF).

(The Calgary Herald) To mark the [of National Wildlife Week] occasion, on Saturday, April 14th Bow Habitat Station will host an "investigative" walk on behalf of the Canadian Wildlife Federation. Learn about plants, mammals and birds in the area-watch for black-capped chickadees and, if you're lucky, an early cedar waxwing-and then roast amarshmallow (a non sequitur perhaps, but who needs a reason to roast marshmallows?). Inside the Discovery Centre, you'll be invited to crawl through a beaver lodge, have a drink with a dinosaur, lock eyes with Oberon, the great-horned-owl representative of the Calgary Wildlife Rehabilitation Society, and, of course, go behind the scenes at the hatchery.

April 6, 2012 | Rowers take on huge challenge - Vancouver Island

(King5.com) When we think of spending time in a rowboat, most of us would imagine a nice afternoon on Lake Union. Instead, picture taking a 29 foot rowboat on open waters for almost three weeks.A group of men called OAR Northwest wants to be the first to row around Vancouver Island, around the clock, and they're guessing it could take 20 days.The crew will be communicating with different schools and gathering data for research along the way. Their adventure is made possible by several sponsors, the biggest being the Canadian Wildlife Federation who donated $150,000 for the excursion.

March 31, 2012 | How to learn life’s lessons? Row across the Atlantic Ocean

(Bainbridge Island Review) On April 7, rowers leave Seattle for a training circumnavigation of Vancouver Island. In December will come an expected 60-to-80-day Atlantic voyage from Liberia to Venezuela.
All the discoveries will benefit a variety of sponsors, including title sponsor Canadian Wildlife Federation, a 50-year-old conservation organization, and Right To Play, an international humanitarian organization.

March 24, 2012 | More donors step forward & schedule is announced to rebuild High Park playground

(CNW) The list of those rebuilding the High Park playground continues to grow with 20 organizations now taking part. the High Park playground, the Jamie Bell Adventure Playground, destroyed by fire last weeked. The Canadian Wildlife Federation will donate to help support the project development. The value of the collaborative donations of in-kind contributions, materials and funds from all of the organizations involved is estimated at $300,000.

February 9, 2012 | Fantastic turnout for Dorintosh Wildlife banquet

(the Meadow Lake Progress) Caribou, moose, elk, beaver, buffalo and squirrel were just some of the delicacies served at the annual Dorintosh Wildlife Federation banquet on Saturday, Feb. 4.

The event was to present the awards from the antler scoring as well as raise money for the Canadian Wildlife Federation.

January 19, 2012 | The premiere night of the Toronto International Boat Show

(Sail-World.com) The largest boat show in Canada, the Toronto International Boat Show's premier night is set for Friday 13th January from 4pm-9pm. You are welcomed to come experience the show in a truly unique and magical way!

Also at the show, CYA will sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the Canadian Wildlife Federation.  The MoU recognises the shared interest in the health of our rivers lakes and oceans and the special connection that sailors have to habitats and wildlife. The CWF, through its Sail for Wildlife Programme, is a keen supporter of sailing through their partnership with the 2012 Transat Quebec Saint-Malo.  The MoU will allow CYA and CWF to develop further partnerships in this area.
