CWF and Redtail Vineyard Light the Way during Earth Hour
March 22, 2010 – It’s a great pairing. The Canadian Wildlife Federation and Redtail Vineyard will celebrate Earth Hour on March 27 with a fundraiser for climate change education. The event runs from 7:30 to 9:30 pm, with the lights-on portion—courtesy of our solar system—taking place from 8:30 to 9:30 pm.
As Canada’s first “off-grid” winery, Redtail is inviting guests to sip organic wines and enjoy wine-and-food pairings at the vineyard, while they turn all the lights on with a little help from our solar system. Space is very limited and tickets are $40, with proceeds supporting CWF’s Climate Change Education.
“CWF is very grateful to Redtail Vineyard for supporting climate change education through this unique initiative,” said Dr. Luba Mycio-Mommers, Director of Education for the Canadian Wildlife Federation. “Redtail is leading the way in sustainability through its solar-powered, organic practices. By launching this fundraiser, owners Pauline Joicey and Gilbert Provost are also inspiring others to protect habitat and wildlife.”
Located near Consecon, Ont., the vineyard is named after a beautiful red-tailed hawk that nested near the owners’ house.
Earth Hour is an annual campaign encouraging households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights and electrical appliances for one hour to raise awareness for the need to take action on climate change.
“By turning this into a fundraiser for climate change education, Redtail Vineyard is lighting the way for other businesses to support conservation programs,” Mycio-Mommers said.
