CWF Concerned about Potential Changes to the Federal Fisheries Act »

ALERT

March 29, 2012 | CWF Concerned about Potential Changes to the Federal Fisheries Act
On March 12 documents were leaked to Otto Langer (a veteran fisheries biologist and CWF’s 2011 Roland Michener Conservation Award winner) indicating that the federal government was considering eliminating the habitat protection provisions of the Fisheries Act. CWF is very concerned as the proposed changes would greatly weaken the ability of government, industry, and conservation organizations to maintain healthy fish populations. In response to this leaked document, CWF has written the Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, the Honourable Keith Ashfield, stating our concerns and requesting a meeting. Lend your support on this issue by sending an email or writing a letter to Minister Ashfield stating your concerns about changes to the Fisheries Act. CWF will continue to follow further developments on this issue and will work to ensure fish habitat continues to receive legal protection.
