Sample Workshop Agenda
1. Getting acquainted.
Give the participants a chance to introduce themselves and identify their expectations from the workshop. An ice-breaker activity works well here.
2. Why WILD Education?
Provide an introduction to the WILD Education programs.
Explain that activities are designed to fit into all subject and skill areas
adapted to suit local needs – no special field trips or materials are required.
3. Facilitator showcase of WILD Education activities
• select and do at least 3 appropriate activities
• show links to curriculum or youth programs
• match to local objectives, projects, or issues
• discuss adaptations for even greater use
4. A WILD walk (through the guide).
• refer to the “Conceptual Framework” section of the manual
• note format and components of the activities –objectives, method, background, and information
• work through the cross references – by subject, skill, grade, topic, and setting (where applicable)
• give participants an exercise to familiarize themselves with the manual
5. Correlation with other resources and activities.
• Curriculum Fit Document
• Scouts Canada Badge Fit Document
• Other youth or community programming related to your participants
6. “WILD” Peer Teaching.
• have small groups of participants lead activities for the whole group
• set groups by interest, similar organizations, or needs
• discuss each activity to show connections and adaptability of programs
7. Individual planning.
• discuss “ How will I use WILD Education” in my program or classroom
• ask participants to contribute ideas on how to use manuals
• discuss props used and safety issues dealing with taking groups outside
• discuss how programs fit into national or local issues of the participants area
8. Evaluation and discussion.
• each participant must complete a WILD Education Participant Survey Form
• if appropriate and available, distribute supplementary material.
