Checkerspot Magazine

Dear Checkerspot Subscribers,

Over the past two years, CWF has been proud to bring you Checkerspot, Canada’s Climate Change Magazine. We launched this magazine in the spring of 2007 as a way to keep the issue of climate change on the front burner by fueling a discussion about the solutions to global warming and encouraging Canadians to reduce their own personal greenhouse gas emissions. More than 6000 of you subscribed to this bi-annual magazine, and thousands more read copies they found at local retailers and inserted in their newspaper. We believe that Checkerspot largely achieved its goals with the publication of the first four issues, and it is with regret that we have opted to discontinue publishing this excellent magazine. The fall/winter 2008 issue will be the final issue.

Producing a high-quality magazine such as Checkerspot is costly and with the recent economic downturn, it would have been impossible to boost our fledgling ad sales enough to offset the costs.  Rather than compromise the standards of Checkerspot by trying to produce it more inexpensively, CWF has opted to cancel the magazine.

CWF has recently undergone an organization-wide shift toward more research and advocacy related activities and will be putting more of its resources toward encouraging governments to create policies which mitigate climate change and help to protect Canada’s wildlife against the effects of climate change.

CWF believes that individual action can lead to large scale change. We hope that you enjoyed and were inspired by the four issues of Checkerspot that CWF published and that you will remember its message: Climate change is in your hands.
