United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change

February 6, 2009

The UN climate convention was held in Poznan, Poland from December 1st to 12th, and CWF was there! Over 11,000 participants from more than 190 countries were involved in discussions to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions, focusing on developing countries and new climate targets.

The Honourable Jim Prentice, Canada’s Environment Minister, stated at the convention “…we must increase our support for the poorest and most vulnerable countries to help them become more resilient to climate change and to adapt to its worst effects.” Having said that, there is much that can be done at home, such as “…reducing global greenhouse gas emissions by at least 50 percent by 2050.”

As the rate of change cannot be explained by natural variations, and as the sources of greenhouse gases are largely human-induced, climate change is a priority with CWF. We will seek solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from individuals, industry and governments.
