National Wildlife Week Poster
NWW is celebrated each year during the week surrounding April 10th, the birthday of Jack miner, one of the founders of Canada’s conservation movement. The week is a celebration of Canada’s natural heritage and a time to play an active role in conservation. Each year we highlight a different aspect of our nation’s wildlife. This year during April 6 to 12, 2008 we’re celebrating Pollinators – one of our most valuable resources – with this colourful new NWW poster!
Pollinators
"From flowers to food to our future"… There are over 200,000 different species that act as pollinators, including birds, bats, beetles and bees, and their protection is essential in ensuring our health and the health of our ecosystem. Learn about Pollination and how it benefits all aspects of our environment.
Why we’re interested
It’s hard to imagine a world without seed-bearing plants. But the survival of many pollinators is now at risk because of activities such as pollution and improper use of pesticides and herbicides. The habitat losses created reduce mating, nesting and migration sites, a few of the reasons why pollinator populations are in decline.
