ANNOUNCING
A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY TO INFLUENCE THE GLOBAL CONSERVATION AGENDA
The Canadian Committee for IUCN invites you to the first ever Canadian Forum for IUCN
This Forum invites Canadian IUCN Members, Commission Members and interested Canadians to:
-
provide meaningful advice to IUCN preparations for the next IUCN Congress, to be held in Jeju Conservation Congress, September 6 – 15, 2012;
-
identify and discuss issues and opportunities for national and global biodiversity conservation from our unique Canadian perspective and;
-
be informed of our responsibilities, as IUCN Members, during the IUCN Congress and IUCN Members Assembly
Agenda
September 19, 2011
To provide meaningful advice and input to IUCN preparations for the Jeju Conservation Congress, we need to take the time to identify and discuss the issues and priorities we, as Canadians, feel are important for biodiversity conservation to be successful. As such, the first day of our event will be a Canadian Conservation Forum. Here we will have the chance to discuss issues and opportunities for national and global biodiversity conservation from our unique Canadian perspective. The day will be opened by CCIUCN President, Clement Lanthier followed by a welcome from Canadian Museum of Nature President, Meg Beckel. We will then have a keynote presentation from Julia Marton-Lefevre, IUCN DIrector General. After some perspectives from IUCN members in Canada, participants will begin breakout discussions on identifying both current key conservation priorities and the challenges in addressing those priorities. The day will close with a presentation of the draft IUCN Programme Framework for 2013-2016 and opportunities to think about our identified key conservation priorities in the context of this Programme Framework. After the session closes, the Canadian Committee for IUCN invites all participants to meet the IUCN DIrector General and North American Regional IUCN Councillors at a reception to be held at the Canadian Museum of Nature.
September 20, 2011
Building on the outcomes of our Canadian Conservation Forum, on the second day of our event, Canadian IUCN members will be able to provide our advice and input to guide IUCN’s work over the next four years, and identify opportunities for Canadian IUCN Members’ and Commission member participation in the IUCN programme. It will also be an opportunity to refresh our knowledge of the IUCN Congress, the IUCN Members Assembly and what will be expected of us as IUCN Members. IUCN Secretariat staff and Councillors will guide us through a series of presentations aiming to inform us of decisions that will be before the IUCN Members Assembly at the Congress and seek our feedback on the draft IUCN Programme Framework for 2013-2016. We will also be treated to a screening of "Love. Not Loss" from the IUCN Commission on Education and Communication.
