Report of the Canadian Forum for IUCN

September 20, 2011
Ottawa ,

The Forum was attended by over 100 individuals representing CCIUCN members, Canadian government and non-government organizations, and Aboriginal organizations.  IUCN staff and Councillors also participated in the Forum.  The first day focused on discussion of Canadian conservation challenges and priorities, particularly in relation to the program areas in the draft IUCN Program for 2013-2016.  The second day focused in more detail on the IUCN program and on IUCN governance issues.

The Forum report contains a list of “Canadian priorities” and “Messages to IUCN” developed from the breakout groups and discussions, as well as a summary of the proceedings. In his closing remarks, CCIUCN President Clément Lanthier indicated that to follow up on the Forum and continue the work of CCIUCN, members were needed for two Working Groups: one to prepare for the World Conservation Congress in 2012, another to work on communications.  He invited participants to sign up for these.
